Late-Breaking Pinot Noirs

Sometimes, samples come in a little late and don’t get tested with the rest of the “kids,” or if I’m really super-busy, they can occasionally get misplaced in my wine room. Such is the case with the following three outstanding Pinot Noirs. Better late than never…

Five Stars
Sojourn Cellars
2009 Sangiacomo Vineyard, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir $48

This is an over-the-top, in-your-face style of Pinot, meaning that it packs a wallop of fruit (black cherry, raspberry and strawberry), baking spices and sweet floral notes, from the first sniff, through the silky, sexy mouthfeel and on through the finish. Think Elton John, done up in spangles, platform shoes and huge glasses, singing “Benny and the Jets,” and you’re there, baby!

Four Stars
Schug Winery
2008 Carneros Pinot Noir $28

Mouthwatering aromas of rose petals, red cherry, mint and spice aromas lure the taster into a delicate, satiny mouthful of consistent flavors that evolve and open up in the glass. Reminds me of Cheryl Crow, singing “Are You Strong Enough To Be My Man?” It’s a pretty, yet powerful wine.

Four Stars
Hahn Estates
SLH Estate 2009 Santa Lucia Highlands Pinot Noir $35

This wine i”Come To Mama.” Oh, yeah!

Coming to this website soon – Chardonnays for Springtime Days. Stay tuned!
