A Chardonnay A Day Keeps The Doctor Away?

I am usually a member of the ABC Club (Anything But Chardonnay), but the following wines are just plain good. In fact, I’m sipping on one of them right now as I write this. I know – tough job, but someone?s gotta do it and it may as well be the Wine Wench. Sigh.

Five Stars
Handley Cellars
2007 Chardonnay, Dry Creek Valley $20

This wine is a class act – picture Scarlett Johansson in a clingy gold designer dress, daintily nibbling on poached pears and buttered toast, while sitting in a sunlit field of wildflowers and you’re there (I love being a writer – it’s really fun in my head!). Aromas and flavors of ripe apple, pear and white flowers are balanced by a hint of toasty, buttery notes. Perfectly balanced and a total steal at $20!

Five Stars
William Hill
2008 Napa Valley Chardonnay $25

Creamy, dreamy and waay too easy to drink! Seductive scents of creme brulee, baked apples, Myer lemon and a touch of toast continue as flavors in the rich, round mouth. Gorgeous! Marilyn Monroe slathered in lemon meringue pie!

Four Stars
Ventana
2008 Estate Grown Chardonnay, Arroyo Seco $18

“What you want, baby I got it! What you need, you know I got it!” All I’m asking is a little balance, varietal correctness, and consistency in my glass, just a little bit – this wine is all that and more! Aromas and flavors of poached pear, apple pie a la mode and a hint of citrus delight the nose and mouth and linger through the finish. Sock it to me!

Four Stars
Napa Station
2007 Chardonnay, Napa Valley $12.50

“Such a deal, bubala!” I mean, really! This is a great Chardonnay at a bargain basement price! Beautifully balanced and totally varietal ~ one sniff and you know you’re in for a classic Chardonnay! Aromas and flavors of tropical fruit, pear and lemon cream play nicely together from the first sniff, through the luscious mouthfeel and on through the finish. Love it!

Four Stars
Shedhorn Cellars
2009 Chardonnay, Lake County $22

This is a really nice Chardonnay. I liked it a lot. Why? Well ~ the nose is redolent (good word, huh?) of dried apple, ripe pear and buttered toast, with a hint of cream. These aromas continue with good intensity through the rich, round mouth and linger on and on – yum!
