Luxurious Cabernet Sauvignons!

Dec 17, 2009 by

Cabernet Sauvignon is the principal red grape in many Bordeaux wines.
It has been cultivated in France since at least the 17th century and was one of the first Bordeaux varietals planted in California.

Cabernet Sauvignon has long been considered “The king of red wines”. Royalty or not, I just enjoy drinking it. I like to pair it with prime rib, rack of lamb, roasted vegetables and if I’m really feeling decadent, a good, juicy hamburger. I am a wench, after all.

My panel and I really enjoyed tasting eleven California Cabernet Sauvignons, priced from $30 to $100. These prices may seem a bit steep, but believe me, these wines are worth it! Believe it or not, our panel favorite was priced at $36!

Note: All wine samples were provided compliments of the respective wineries (We bloggers now have to say that for legality?s sake ? sheesh!).

The following wines were our favorites:

Big, plush, rich and exotic and at a bargain price, too – this classic Cab is not to be missed! Aromas and flavors of black cherry, blackberry, dark chocolate, coffee and exotic spice (cardamom, tumeric, cinnamon and allspice) abound, all wrapped up in a velvety mouthfeel. Fantastic!

Wow! Coffee, cocoa, vanilla, plum, blackberry and cedar are the theme here – present from the first sniff, dancing through the decadently rich mouth and on through the long finish. This delicious Cab is way too easy to drink! Yum!

This is one big, dark sexy Cab! Spice potpourri, rose petals, cocoa powder and ripe dark fruit aromas and flavors delight the nose and palate. The mouthfeel is wonderfully rich and velvety smooth. Long, luscious finish. Oh, yeah!

Three Stars
Derby Estates

Mocha, black cherry, raspberry, candied orange peel and cedar scents blend perfectly. In the super-rich, silky-smooth mouth, these aromas continue as flavors and are enhanced by a touch of vanilla. A great wine for a value price!
